The political party 50PLUS considers it important that expertise in strengthening the social and political position of the elderly is shared with similar organizations in other countries. Therefore, in May 2018, the general assembly of 50PLUS decided to establish the Jan Nagel 50PLUS Foundation (JNF).
The JNF is an independent foundation with ANBI status.
The JNF aims to contribute internationally to the development of societies where:
- Older people are respected and heard.
- The rights of the elderly (“senior citizens”) are guaranteed.
- They are adequately represented at the political level.
You are currently on the JNF website. Here you will find information about the purpose and activities of the JNF.
Purpose:
Many countries are dealing with aging populations and a rapidly growing elderly population. This leads to discussions about issues such as the increasing costs of healthcare, social security, decent pension systems, and appropriate housing for the elderly.
In many countries, there is also a growing purchasing power gap between those who are working and those who are no longer working. Additionally, age discrimination is often an issue.
The global Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in vulnerable elderly people being excluded. The daily life of the elderly is now characterized by restrictions and caution.
JNF wants to promote the political emancipation of the elderly at the EU and global levels. This is done by establishing and deepening contacts with other elderly parties and organizations within the European Union and surrounding countries.
Where possible, JNF aims to work together with them. The contacts are focused on educational and training activities to support sister parties and organizations outside the Netherlands.
Initially, the JNF will focus on a limited number of countries where there are promising developments that can contribute to achieving the objectives. One of the criteria is the extent to which these countries need structural strengthening of democracy and civil society.
JNF wants to pay special attention to promoting the position and political involvement of women. Additionally, JNF aims to contribute to improving mutual understanding between people from countries with differences in culture, development, and political situation. Especially during a period when tensions arising from these differences seem to be increasing rather than decreasing, this is of great importance.
